I can't remove the factory connector

This is the trickiest part of the installation process, so don’t worry once these are removed, the rest is easy. The connectors have little locking tabs that need to be pulled back (towards the wiring) a little. Sometimes dirt and debris can prevent the locking tabs from being removed so try removing it and try again. You can also try gently prying it with a small flat head screwdriver to unlock the tab. You should then be able to press down on the connector clip to release it. Again, dirt and debris may cause this to get stuck so please clean this as well. You may also be able to gently pry it using a flat head screwdriver, making sure to be pressing down on the clip. Any damages during installation are not covered by warranty so please take your time and be careful. It is recommended to consult a professional if you have troubles.

I can’t find the valve actuators

The valve actuators are usually located at the end of the exhaust system near the rear mufflers and exhaust tips. You should be able to see a wiring harness running to the actuator. Depending on the car they will look something like these actuators pictured. If you still cannot see any actuators, please check that you have a factory active exhaust system and have the same car as specified in the product description that you purchased. Feel free to send us pictures if you need confirmation. Alternatively it might be worth seeking advice from a workshop with ramps or a hoist who could get a better view.

There is not enough room above the actuator to fit the Exhaust Controller

The Exhaust Controller was designed to fit many different makes and models with factory and aftermarket exhaust systems. But sometimes we cannot account for every scenario, so we have designed the Exhaust Controller to be extended. Simply cut the cable tie then unclip the black bracket from the short connector and slide out the other long connector out of the bracket. This will allow you to mount the Exhaust Controller elsewhere and only have the small connector plugged into the actuator. You can secure the Exhaust Controller with cable ties somewhere away from anything hot or that is moving. Be sure to avoid sharp points where the wiring could rub and damage the Exhaust Controller.

See the video at the bottom of this page.

I’m not sure if it’s working

Once installing the Exhaust Controller, please confirm that it is working. After your car has warmed up, put the car into quiet / comfort / closed mode, then press the open ( ∿ ) button. You should be able to listen to the valve and actuator moving. Open and close the valve using the remote and confirm that it opens and closes. You can also visually inspect the butterfly valve inside the exhaust using a torch. If you cannot see it directly, you may want to use an inspection camera. You may also be able to poke a wire of some sort through to feel if you hit the valve or not. But do not try to open or close the valve while the object is in the exhaust, as getting objects stuck in the valve can cause damage.

Note that if your car is set to loud / race / sport / track mode and the valve is already open, then the Exhaust Controller will not do anything, as the valves are already open. It will not force the valve closed in this mode for safety and risk of damaging the car.

It works only once then stops working

First, please confirm that the Exhaust Controller has been installed properly and inspecting the connectors are properly connected and locked. This can occur if the exhaust valve has not calibrated properly. Be sure to wait a few seconds every time you turn on the ignition / turn on the car before pressing any of the remote buttons. This will give the actuator time to calibrate, which you should be able to visually inspect and listen to as it will open and close quickly. If this does not occur, try removing the Exhaust Controller, then try restarting the car for it to calibrate. If the actuator does not calibrate still, then this issue will need to be resolved before being able to use the Exhaust Controller. If it calibrates on without the Exhaust Controller for some reason, please contact us immediately and we will assist you.

The exhaust doesn’t sound loud

First, please confirm that the Exhaust Controller is working properly (see above). The loudest your car will sound is likely when it is in sport / race / track mode, as it will also affect the engine tune including engine speed, timing and fueling. With your car in this mode, press the open ( ∿ ) button and drive your car. You can also experiment with opening the valves in the car’s quiet / comfort modes for potential intermediate exhaust sounds. Ultimately the loudness of your car is determined by the exhaust system and its mufflers and resonators. The Exhaust Controller gives you the ability to fully open the valves, but if your exhaust is very quiet to begin with, it will require further modification to make it louder. The best results are on aftermarket exhaust systems as they are commonly designed with the valved section to be less restrictive, resulting in a louder sound.

There is a check engine light on the dashboard

Check that all connectors are firmly in place and the locking tabs are pressed in and locked. Confirm that the Exhaust Controller works and take note of when the warning light appears (for example when pressing the open button). If all connectors are plugged in correctly, remove the Exhaust Controller and check for warning lights. If they are still present, then there may be another problem with the valve system that will need to be sorted before using the Exhaust Controller system. If you need assistance, please contact us.

How to extend Exhaust Controller

If you need to locate the Exhaust Controller elsewhere, you can remove the bracket and extend it.
